For many, this is a season of shopping for perfect gifts. The heartfelt desire to give also brings challenges of choosing what to give, finding it, and allocating time and money for shopping. I take this opportunity to examine my true reasons for giving.
Am I giving from my heart in celebration and love because I truly want to give? If so, I pray for discernment as I weigh whether it’s better to buy a gift, give something freshly made in my kitchen, or devote time to someone who will treasure my presence more than any kind of present.
As a cheerful giver, I follow the generosity I feel in my heart, seeking no reward from others beyond the joy of giving.
Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.—James 1:17
